Areas of Expertise

With over 30 years of combined experience, including work with nursing homes, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, and healthcare technology start-ups, the S4 team has an extensive understanding of healthcare issues. Our team regularly interacts with federal and state regulatory agencies, including the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Illinois’ Departments of Human Services (IDHS) and Illinois Children and Family Services (IDCFS), as well as other states’ health agencies, and we currently represent clients with over 30,000 beds in the states of Illinois and Ohio.

Non-Profit Advocacy

The S4 team has a considerable history of success in non-profit advocacy. Members of our team have grown a regional non-profit organization from a budget of $70,000 to $1.5 million, raised millions of dollars for one of the largest national non-profits, and raised $30 million for Hurricane Sandy relief, in addition to other causes. The S4 team also made progress on key state bills extending religious freedom protections to elderly hospital patients.

S4 team members have experience working in all facets of education at the state level, including school choice, private education matters, religious freedom, and contracting opportunities for our clients. Members of the team have testified in front of 26 state committees on these issues, published articles on education topics, and conducted research on the implementation of different teaching methods in the classroom to target varied learning styles. In addition, our team has worked on education matters at the federal level, including STEM and financial aid policy.

Business Development & Strategy

The leaders of S4 have a strong background in creating successful marketing and growth strategies for business owners as they attempt to wade through the maze of public sector bureaucracy. The team has enabled others to advance their businesses through successful sales and marketing strategies and understands the impact that regulations and laws have on clients.

Government Relations

The members of the S4 team draw from experience working in and negotiating with state and federal legislators and agencies. The relationships we have built through positions in the US House of Representatives and US Senate enable us to work closely with federal committees, including Appropriations, Armed Services, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Ways and Means. The S4 team’s robust research background also informs our work on Capitol Hill on issues ranging from finance, education, and trade to manufacturing, healthcare, and the Middle East.

Technology, Energy & Transportation

Members of the S4 team have coordinated both philanthropic and private interests in energy and science, having worked on cutting-edge innovations in alternative energy and homeland security, as well as on fusion energy research at top-ranked universities. Successes in these areas included working with Congress and the Administration to amend laws and increase budgets for related interest groups, and coordinating public-private partnerships in the development of sustainable energy resources.
